Open-air Balinese pavilion at Alamanda with timber columns and planting

Über uns

Erst der Garten, dann die Gebäude

Ein Boutique-Refugium für Wellness und Retreats im Norden Balis

Alamanda began as a family garden on the hill behind Kalibukbuk, and the buildings came afterwards, which is why the planting is older than the walls and keeps arriving through them.

It is deliberately small. Twelve units, one Shala, two pools, one kitchen. At that size the team knows everyone's name by the second morning, breakfast can be late, and a retreat group can take the whole place without displacing a hotel's worth of other guests.

We are not a resort with a yoga class on the timetable. The practice, the food and the garden are the same project, run by people who live in Buleleng and intend to still be here in twenty years.

Ich habe vierzehn Studierende mitgebracht. Die Shala, das Essen und das Team haben meine Aufgabe fast überflüssig gemacht, ich konnte einfach unterrichten.

Vier Dinge, an die wir uns halten

  • Small on purpose

Twelve units. We have turned down every plan to build more.

  • Local by default

Teachers, therapists, drivers and crew are all from North Bali.

  • Honest about what we are not

No beach club, no spa palace, no nightlife. Lovina at nine in the evening is quiet.

  • Water and waste

Filtered refill stations instead of plastic bottles, and garden greywater irrigation.
